Poogy Bjerklie

THEN / NOW In her second show at The Phatory, Bjerklie continues her exploration of the landscape surrounding her summertime home in rural Maine. With their varying array of skies, trees, horizons, these small-scale gems of oil wash on rag board stand within painting traditions that use detached observation of the natural world to elicit a sense of place, solitude, and stillness.

Ms. Bjerklie’s artistic career encompasses many media. She studied metalsmithing at Maine College and her textile work has been shown in Tennessee and Missouri as part of several NEA-sponsored exhibits and at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. She has been the subject of KETC-TV’s “St. Louis Skyline” and is the recipient of the city of Philadelphia’s “Dresses of the World” award.
